Commercial Tenants Seek Rent Relief From Landlords

April 16, 2020- In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, state governments shut down all non-essential businesses.  With countless businesses no longer open, the opportunity for sales and profits became limited.  Businesses were forced to make a choice – conserve cash or pay their bills.  Attempting to reserve some of their funds, a rent relief option has gained momentum amongst commercial tenants.  The rent relief option is less than perfect for the owners of the buildings – who still have mortgages to pay.

Without legislation from the government,  rent relief has been given and denied on a case by case basis.
