T-Mobile Data Breach

Wireless carrier T-Mobile confirmed reports that it suffered a major data breach in which hackers obtained personal information belonging to more than 50 million past, present and potential customers. The information accessed by hackers contained highly sensitive personal information including full names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license data as well as unique identifiers for customers’ phones.

T-Mobile has been involved in several data breach incidents in the past three years, but according to Allie Mellen, a security and risk analyst at Forrester Research, this is “the worst breach they’ve had so far.” The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has opened an investigation into the breach.
