Toxic Heavy Metals
in Bayer Prenatal
Vitamins
CASE OVERVIEW
Due to the importance of nutrition during pregnancy, consumers expect a product that is free from heavy metals and toxic substances and one that accurately represents the quantities of nutrients. Research shows that low dose and consistent exposure to heavy metal toxicity during pregnancy can result in adverse effects to the infant. Exposure to heavy metals during pregnancy may also lead to negative health effects in early childhood such as behavioral and neurocognitive conditions. Likewise, receiving less than the recommended value of key nutrients like folic acid may negatively impact a developing infant.
