Black Men Unfairly Targeted for ‘Jet Black” Toxic Hair Dye

Kohn, Swift & Graf, P.C. is currently investigating certain toxic Just for Men “Jet Back” hair dye created by Combe, Inc.

It’s believed that Combe used African American athletes to encourage other African Americans to buy Just for Men’s “Jet Black” hair dye. However, the product contains 17 times more p-Phenylenediamine, or PPD, than other versions of the hair dye. In 2000, the Environmental Protection Agency determined that exposure to PPD can cause many serious injuries including but not limited to: kidney failure, asthma, skin irritation, and comas. The complaint further explains through various scientific studies that African American men had a higher percentage sensitization rate to PPD than Caucasian men.

This isn’t OK. By knowingly designing and marketing Just for Men products disproportionately to black males compared to white males, Combe violated two California Consumer Protection laws, and a federal anti-discrimination law under the Civil Rights Act.
