Quest Diagnostics Data Breach Affects Millions

June 6, 2019- Kohn, Swift, & Graf, P.C. is investigating Quest Diagnostics for a data breach that compromised the sensitive information of more than 11 million patients. Quest is the leading provider of laboratory medical diagnostic testing in the United States with access to the HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) protected information of millions of patients throughout the country.

Quest Knowingly Failed to Warn Patients after Learning of the Breach

The data breach occurred from August 1, 2018 and March 30, 2019. According to a statement released by Quest on June 3, 2019, the company was made aware of the data breach in May, 2019. Quest violated HIPPA regulations, and furthermore knowingly failed to advise their patients or warn them to protect their information. The company did not release a report until June 3, 2019 allowing even more time for potential sensitive information of patients to be exposed. The sensitive patient information included financial records, including credit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, medical records, medical history, and other personal information.
